NALSAR Mediation Tournament (NMT)

The NALSAR Mediation Tournament is the flagship Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) competition of NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad. First held in March 2019, the tournament has, in a short span of time, evolved into one of India’s most prestigious and widely recognised mediation competitions.

At its core, the tournament seeks to promote mediation and negotiation skills among law students across the country, while advancing mediation as both an effective dispute resolution mechanism and a viable career path for aspiring legal professionals. It provides a dynamic platform for participants to demonstrate their ADR capabilities, while simultaneously fostering deeper engagement with the global ADR community.

The competition attracts participation from leading national and international law schools and is structured to ensure both rigour and realism. It begins with a Strategy Paper Qualifier Round, followed by Preliminary Rounds, Semi-Finals, and a Final Round conducted on campus. A distinctive feature of the tournament is its evolving Confidential Information format, carefully designed to mirror the fluid and adaptive nature of real-world mediation processes.

Beyond the competition rounds, participants benefit from dedicated training sessions and panel discussions led by experienced practitioners and experts, reinforcing the tournament’s strong academic and professional orientation. It serves not merely as an assessment of technical legal acumen, but as a comprehensive training ground for collaborative problem-solving, negotiation strategy, and emotional intelligence—skills that are increasingly indispensable in contemporary legal practice.

With the involvement of industry experts, top law schools, and a vibrant social programme, the NALSAR Mediation Tournament stands as a landmark event in India’s legal education landscape, shaping the next generation of dispute resolution professionals.

This tournament has been sponsored by leading law firms and mediation centres in India, like Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas (CAM), Luthra and Luthra Law Firms, Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan Attorneys (LKS), Samvad Partners, Nishith Desai and Advocates, ACM Legal Advocates, CAMP Arbitration and Mediation Practice, Manupatra, SCC Online, IAMC Hyderabad, Peacekeeping and Conflict Resolution Team, L&L Partners, Mediator Academy, Bridge, Centre for Mediation and Conciliation, Eastern Book Company, Indian Bank, Fox and Mandal and Nivaaran.
