Vice-chancellor’s Message

Welcome to NALSAR University of Law, a community of learning dedicated to excellence in legal and management education, research, and public engagement, rooted in the constitutional promise of justice and the Rule of Law. As Vice-Chancellor, I am deeply aware that each member of the student body, staff, and faculty who walks onto our campus in Shamirpet participates in this larger project of building a more just, inclusive, and critically engaged society.

Inspired by Rabindranath Tagore’s vision of a realm “where the mind has not been broken into fragments by narrow domestic walls”, NALSAR has, since its inception in 1998, nurtured an academic culture that refuses intellectual silos and narrow professionalism. Our programmes emphasise an integrated understanding of law in conversation with public policy, social institutions, markets and cultural practices, encouraging students to question, reflect and imagine transformative legal and management futures.

Over the years, NALSAR has been consistently recognised as one of India’s leading institutions for legal education, and has secured a place among the top three law universities in the country in successive editions of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings. Our ‘A++’ accreditation by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), with a CGPA of 3.52 on a four-point scale, affirms the quality of our teaching-learning processes, research, governance and institutional ethos.

Our 50-acre residential campus in Shamirrpet is designed to be a space where work and life coalesce: a well-resourced library with extensive electronic access, specialised research centres, a moot court hall, robust sports facilities and vibrant student-led initiatives together create an environment for holistic development. Within this setting, we have been early adopters of academic innovations such as the Choice-Based Credit System and globally oriented elective offerings, enabling students to design intellectually diverse pathways that respond to both local urgencies and global debates.

Equally central to NALSAR’s mission is our engagement with the wider community through legal literacy, public-facing research, and collaboration with institutions in India and abroad. As we look ahead, we remain committed to cultivating socially responsive lawyers, managers, scholars, entrepreneurs, and leaders who combine professional competence with ethical sensitivity and a deep commitment to democratic values.
