NALSAR IV Debate

The NALSAR Intervarsity Debating Championship (NALSAR IV) was conceived to introduce the British Parliamentary (BP) debate format to the Indian debating circuit, while also serving as a preparatory platform for the World Universities Debating Championship—the most prestigious debating competition in the world. As India’s first-ever BP tournament, NALSAR IV has established itself as a benchmark for competitive debating, consistently exposing participants to the highest standards of argumentation and adjudication.

Organised by the Literary and Debating Committee of NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, the tournament is supported by a dedicated team of student volunteers who ensure a seamless and meticulously coordinated experience.

True to its pioneering role, NALSAR IV has consistently featured internationally renowned adjudicators as part of its Core Adjudication (CA) teams, ensuring a world-class debating environment. Past CA teams have included distinguished figures such as Sharmila Parmanand, Harish Natarajan, Jens Henning Fischer, Mabroor Wassey, James Kilcup, Lucinda David, and Tariq Maketab.

The championship has consistently witnessed intense competition at its highest levels. Its final rounds have featured participants from institutions of international repute, including University of Cambridge, Loyola Marymount University, National Law School of India University, and Indian Institute of Technology Bombay.

Team Eligibility: Despite the inter-varsity tag, institutional cross teams are welcome both members must belong to the same institution. Non-institutional cross teams are not permitted.

Format: British Parliamentary (BP) the format used at the World Universities Debating Championship (WUDC), the global gold standard for competitive debate.

Last Edition Dates: 15th IV Debating Championship, 5th to 7th September.
