Professor (Dr.)Srikrishna Deva Rao, Vice-chancellor, NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad

Legal education today is inter-disciplinary, inter-professional, and international. In keeping up with the ever-evolving nature of legal education, NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad orients its students through an analytical and critical lens grounded in interdisciplinary inquiry.

Our Five-Year Integrated B.A., LL.B. programme offers a diverse basket of optional courses, electives, seminar and clinical courses. Similarly, the Management programme also builds strong and viable business in the light of regulatory climate. The LL.M. and Ph.D. programmes are very intensive and offer a very wide range of courses to widen horizons and maximize learning. At NALSAR, you would be a part of a vibrant intellectual community.

I recall at this stage the ‘golden rules’ of life, memorably observed by Sudha Murty, a well- known writer, engineer and philanthropist. She said, “We can give our children only two things in life – strong roots and powerful wings. Then they may fly anywhere and live independently”. This is true for your time at NALSAR. The law degree gives you the power to fly with strong roots of knowledge, skills and values. She further said, “having good relationships, compassion and peace of mind in life is more important” than money, status and privilege. NALSAR’s focus on its academic social responsibility and its rich legal aid initiatives imbibe in our students the value of not going after money, but to work hard, be a good lawyer, teacher, policy maker, social worker, and above all, a good human being.

NALSAR has made the pursuit of equitable legal education its goal. The University set out on this journey in a spirit of adventure with a willingness to experiment with course curriculums and teaching methodologies. At NALSAR, we accept that the effort to provide meaningful education is a ceaseless pursuit, which would require many trials and possible failures. We strive towards this goal with the courage to experiment and the humility to learn from mistakes.

I invite you to be a part of the vibrant scholastic community that NALSAR has to offer.
